Kip Marine Village - some history…
In the early 1960s the Holt family became aware of an innovative development in boat mooring abroad which allowed the walk-on-walk-off facility taken for granted today. Seeing the huge potential they quickly identified Inverkip as being a perfect location due to the excellent shelter and rural surroundings. Construction of Kip Marina continued through the 60s, coinciding with new main road, and the first phase was completed in 1971, making it the first marina in Scotland and one of only three under construction in the whole of the UK. Originally planned for 250 boats, by 1984 the berths were up to 600 and the following year the Chartroom Bar & Restaurant was erected together with the extended shower and toilet facilities. 2004 saw the original chandlery and offices demolished and replaced with a more modern building and then in 2007 the marina facilities were refurbished with the pontoons, electrics, lighting, gangways and gates all being replaced and a state of the art entry and CCTV system installed.
